Luke (sexyer1) - Thanks. I am glad you appreciated this entry and hope you will get some use out of it. From the sound of it I think you will. I too, had been avoiding it because I had a bad experience with the last few versions but with this latest version the GIMP community developers have really done a whole lot to improve it. It's so much more organized. It could be better organized but I'm sure it will get there.

I agree with you. I hate it when people try to use Paintbrush to do crap. The files always come to me bloated. You're right. They haven't changed the program much. They also haven't changed it much in Vista. I don't know what it's like in the Gold release of Vista because I don't run it but I know when I was playing with Vista Beta 2 and Release Candidate 1 it had not changed all that much from XP, if at all.

I had no issues running The GIMP on Windows but that doesn't mean everyone else will have the same experience. All I did was download the executable, double click and it installed. When/If there is a wizard that comes up after installation just say "OK" to all the defaults. My PC is solely running Linux (Fedora) now and installation is easier (yum -y install gimp, and boom you're done).

I did have plans to encode the video into flash format and then use a flash player created by someone else instead of using Vimeo but it was just really easy to do. I also get more views when it's on a service like Vimeo. I'm still planning on writing a blog entry about integrating a flash player into a WordPress blog. Hopefully I can work on that soon. Let me know how the private/embedding clip goes for your client.

Oh and if you have any specific questions about how to do something with The GIMP rather it's related to photography or web design please ask. That way if I don't know how to do it I can learn how to do it and show others how to do it then. I don't know everything about The GIMP so it would be a way for me to learn as well. Thanks, Luke.

Thanks again Mr, I didn't realize GIMP could do all this, I have avoided it.

I know a few people who need a basic image program, but this looks far better than them staying with Microsoft Windows Paint which drives me mental when I see cut-up images saved in poor quality from that stupid program.. (why did Microsoft even bother with paint? And why has it never changed up to XP version, I think XP has the same Paint as 98 or maybe Windows 95!? lol)

I have a feeling I suggested to my mum to try using GIMP a few months back, but the installation confused her and I was too busy to help at the time. I'll have a look at it and help her install it in a weeks or so when I give myself a holiday.

PS. That Vimeo player is hot! I made a website in which that player would look great on, just awaiting the actual video from them. I'm not sure if they would want their video embed-able by others, so I've been looking on the vimeo website to see if there is a way to stop the "embed" option from displaying, I wonder if the clip was set to private would that stop it from showing... then again if it's set to private maybe it can't even be embedded my the owner.. looking into that now.. lol
